The project “MODEL OLIVE GROVE OF ROUMATA FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF OLIVE FRUIT FLY” with project code M16ΣYN2-00380 is an approved project of Submeasure 16.1 – 16.5 “Cooperation for environmental projects, environmental practices and actions for climate change and current environmental practices”, Action 2, of the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 (RDP 2014-2020). The project is implemented in the Region of Crete, in the area of Chania and aims at the most environmentally friendly, integrated and effective management of the pest, through the application of an optimal combination of mass trapping (biological method) with precision bait spraying, using electronic equipment and automation systems, in line with the objectives set by the Europe’s “farm to fork” strategy.

Technological Modernization and Optimization of Olive Fruit Fly Protection

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of the Olive Fruit Fly

OUR BENEFITS

The Innovation

image
The key innovation of the proposal is the optimal combination of environmentally friendly approaches, integrated management methods and smart and precision farming technologies to deal with olive fruit fly more effectively. The method of mass trapping and the method of precision spraying, using electronic, automation and IT technologies, will be combined appropriately – for the first time in Greece and internationally. A holistic, coherent and innovative framework (nationally and internationally) of smart and precision agriculture is developed for the integrated management of pests, the protection of the environment, humans and the products produced (olive oil and edible olives). Olive growers and all those involved in olive oil production – through the transfer of know-how – will adapt to new conditions and European regulations that promote sustainable agriculture and minimizing the use of agrochemicals in order to produce higher quality and safer food.
